Ski Touring Intro : Meribel & Les Trois Vallees
11-18 Apr 2020 (Sat-Sat) £TBD
Working with Marmalade Ski School, our Alpine partner in Les Trois Vallees. Their instructors will take advantage of their local knowledge to find some fun and easy off piste routes that are lift assisted and accessible with short uphill ski tours typically under an hour in length. They will introduce you to the basics of ski touring showing you how to use the specialised skis & bindings, applying skins and the use of avalanche safety equipment.

The course will include on piste skiing to get you familiar with all the gear so we can enjoy the peace and tranquility that easy ski tours can provide. Springtime conditions should allow for skinning each day but if we have adverse weather we will work with you to improve your off piste skillset through drills and exercises on piste.

If you have touring skis and boots great, if not we can arrange for hire at a local shop. Backpacks with avalanche rescue equipment will be required every day. If you have your own please bring it along, if not we will issue you with all the relevant equipment (backpack, shovel, probe and transceiver) free of charge.

This holiday is suitable for level 8 and higher skiers who confidently enjoy skiing off piste on steeper slopes (red+) away from pistes. Will have several weeks spent skiing off piste terrain and some knowledge of mountain craft. Possibly skied with guides and may have ski toured. Skis confidently and enjoys powder, able to ski with consistent speed and turn shape in all but the most challenging conditions. Able to handle a variety of conditions including lightly crusted and wind affected snow. Has the fitness to ski off piste all day and would be happy to skin uphill on easy gradients for up to an hour at a time and can get up unassisted after a fall in deep snow.

Coaching

The coaching will comprise 4 all-day, 1 full day coaching sessions during the course with a day off. This is a typical schedule and is highly dependent on weather and snow conditions and we may need to rearrange as the week progresses.

This holiday will be run by our Alpine partner ski school Marmalade. Coaching will be provided by Derek Chandler who is the founder of Marmalade and has over 20 seasons of skiing in Les Trois Vallees and knows the area extremely well.

Video review will be minimal as we will be focussing on getting mileage in but we will endeavour to obtain some footage and photographs of you skiing over the course of the week.

Accommodation

Our accommodation partner for this coaching holiday is Ski Hame, an independent chalet operator that operates a number of chalets in the Trois Vallees. Chalet Grange á Charlotte is a lovely chalet located in the traditional hamlet of Meribel Les Allues. It sleeps up to 14 people in great comfort, featuring seven en-suite bedrooms (all with full size baths except one which has a shower).

It is a very comfortable and spacious chalet, with an open plan lounge/dining area, log fireplace and underfloor heating throughout. There is a TV and DVD player, CD player & iPod docking station. There are hair dryers in every bedroom, and a boot room with full size boot dryer/warmer for comfortable boots every day! There is free wifi internet access throughout the chalet. The highlight of the apres-ski facilities is a full size indoor hot tub.

Meribel Les Allues is a short journey from the centre of Meribel itself. Chalet staff will take you each morning to the main lifts in Meribel by private minibus, where you will met the Inside Out Skiing coaches. At the end of the day we will agree a time and location for collection by the chalet staff, which could be Meribel or Meribel village, allowing for a different venue for apres-ski drinks before being taken back to the chalet. Alternatively the free resort shuttle bus can be used to travel around the Meribel valley.

Travel

Transfers to the resort
A free transfer to and from Geneva Airport is included in the cost of the coaching holiday. This gives you the freedom to choose whatever flight and departure airport is most convenient for you. Transfer to the resort will be by private minibus service. Please contact complete our booking form or contact Ski Hame to confirm transfer timings before you book your flights. As a rough guide look at flights arriving Geneva airport between 9am and 5pm on arrival day, and scheduled after 9am on departure day. There may be a wait for others on different flights as Ski Hame shares the transfer with other chalet operators and the service is very reliable and well coordinated.
Travel within the resort
The village of Meribel Les Allues is approximately 10 minutes from the main Meribel lift complex. Ski Hame's chalet staff are extremely helpful and use a private minibus to take you to the slopes each day where you will meet the Inside Out Skiing coaches. A time and pickup point is agreed each day for collection after skiing, allowing you the choice of apres-ski venues.

In addition to Ski Hame's service there is also a free resort shuttle bus service to get you anywhere within the Meribel valley and taxis are plentiful if you desire a late night out.
